Puritan Vision for America
🏛️The Puritans aimed to establish a "model Christian society" in America, based on Biblical law and the concept of a "holy commonwealth" in covenant with God, as outlined in John Winthrop's "Model Christian".
🌎Puritans believed America was their "manifest destiny" to prove the validity of their religious claims to the world, viewing their endeavor as creating "God's New Israel".
Social and Religious Beliefs
🤝Early American colonists embraced the idea of "unity through diversity", believing God ordained social hierarchies, as described in the Bible, rather than advocating for socialism or communism.
🕯️Puritans interpreted their violation of the Sabbath in America as evidence of forgetting their identity as "New Israel", highlighting the importance of maintaining religious practices.
